Our rival: Zagłębie Lubin

on 18 September at 19:00, the PGE FKS Stali Mielec team will play their next match in PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Our rival in the meeting within the 8th round will be the team of Zagłębie Lubin. There have been several transfers both incoming and outgoing in the team from Lubin. The team led by Waldemar Fornalik left, among others, Łukasz Łakomy, Jakub Świerczok, Filip Starzyński and Sasa Zivec. In turn, Mateusz Wdowiak, Marek Mróz and Kamil Kruk and Adam Ratajczyk, returning on loan from PGE FKS Stali Mielec, joined the team from Lubin.

Makowski did, however, enter the scoring list when he beat Ruch’s goalkeeper in the 71st minute of the match. The winning goal for Zagłębie Lubin in the 81st minute was scored by Kłudka with a fantastic strike and it was Waldemar Fornalik’s team that could rejoice in victory.

on 29 July, the Zagłębie Lubin team travelled to Wrocław for an away match. The Lower Silesia derby was special for coach Waldemar Fornalik, as it was his 500th match as a coach in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Jacek Magiera’s players were the first to take the lead in this encounter. Samiec-Talar was fouled in the penalty area and the penalty kick was confidently taken by Erik Expósito. Dawid Kurminowski gave Miedziów the equaliser after a mistake by the Śląsk goalkeeper. 4 minutes later, Bohar entered the list of scorers and it was the team from Lubin that could, after the final whistle of the arbiter, rejoice with 3 points and a win in the derby of Lower Silesia.

In the next two games, the team from Lubin recorded 1 point on their account. In the match against Lech Poznań, they came out on top after a goal scored by Kurminowski, who took advantage of an error by Lech’s goalkeeper Filip Bednarek. Despite the fact that from the 50th minute the team from Poznan played in a weakened position (a red card was received by Murawski), in the 76th minute a goal for Lech was scored by Miha Blažič. The meeting ended in a 1:1 draw.

The match against Cracovia was the first defeat for Waldemar Fornalik’s team in the 2023/2024 PKO BP Ekstraklasa season. In the 10th and in the 35th minute of the meeting, Patryk Makuch entered the scoring list and after the first 45 minutes of the meeting, the score on the board was 2:0. In the second part of the match, despite making 5 changes, the team from Lubin was unable to score a goal. In added time, Chodyna scored a goal from a penalty kick, but after the final whistle of the referee, it was Cracovia’s players who could rejoice in their victory.

As part of the 5th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, the Zagłębie Lubin team faced another newcomer – the Puszcza Niepołomice team. From the beginning of the meeting, it was the team from Lubin looking for their chances to take the lead. Despite firing several shots at Komar’s goal, they failed to score. After the first half of the meeting, the score was 0:0. In the 50th minute of the match, Chodyna entered the scoring list and it was the only goal of the meeting. Zagłębie won 1:0.

on 20 August, the Zagłębie team travelled to Kielce for an away match against Korona. The lead in this meeting was taken already in the 15th minute of the match by Kamil Kuzera’s team, when Nono scored his first goal in PKO BP Ekstraklasa. seven minutes later, Dalmau increased the match’s score. In the 31st minute of the match, the second yellow card in the match was given to Kłudka and Waldemar Fornalik’s team had to play in a weakened position. The result of the meeting was no longer changed and after 90 minutes of the match the team from Lubin had to accept defeat.

Before the PKO BP Ekstraklasa break due to national team matches, the Zagłębie Lubin team took on the Pogoń Szczecin team at their home stadium. The team from Szczecin entered this meeting with 3 defeats in a row in the league. In the first part of the game, the players from Lubin created more goal-scoring opportunities, but failed to convert any of them into goals. In the 78th minute, a corner kick was taken by Buletsa and the ball after his pass was headed into the goal by Bartosz Kopacz. The meeting ended with a score of 1:0.
