During the winter break there was a change in the coaching position of our team. Włodzimierz Gąsior was replaced by Ryszard Latawiec , formerly associated with Resovia for many years. In the last four spring rounds, the Steel team won 6 points (3-0 against Lechia Gdańsk and 2-1 against Motor Lublin at home, 0-0 each against Zagłębie Sosnowiec and Górnik Wałbrzych away). Until Wednesday’s match against Slask Wrocław, our team was 12th in the table, with 21 points, while our rival was in sixth position, with seven points more. Mielczanie started the match without Lizończyk, who was paused for yellow cards, with only one nominal striker Filipczak. Already in the 11th minute we were met with a cold shower, when, after a corner kick by Socha, Mariusz Stelmach’s accurate header hit the top corner of the hosts’ goal. Stal rushed to make up for the loss, with three times Stal’s side defender Boguslaw Skiba breaking through the Warriors’ barricades and, as early as the 23rd minute, a precise head strike led to an equaliser. Not much interesting happened on the pitch until both teams went down for the break. The game sluggishly played in the central area of the pitch and there was little in the way of composed action from either side.
The second half started similarly to the first half of this duel. For the second time that day, Silesia enjoyed taking the lead thanks to Mandziejewicz. The blue and white team again shook off the slump. By the end of the match, they had created as many as 10 goal situations. But only twice did they manage to break through the visitor’s barriers, as our central formation was not one of the best on that day. First, in the 64th minute, Andrzej Banasik, who had been introduced onto the pitch just five minutes earlier, led to a draw, taking advantage of the confusion in the opponent’s defence. Eleven minutes later, midfielder Roman Gruszecki showed off with an impressive strike . FKS’s confident win allowed them to pick up another two points, consequently keeping the Mielecs in the first division.

It has won twice, by scores of 2-0 and 5-2.
