Mother and son were diagnosed in 2009 with a very rare genetic cancer and vascular disease: Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL).

Symptoms include cancerous tumours and cysts that appear on various organs and sites such as the spinal cord, brain, pancreas, adrenal glands, kidneys, eyes and many more…

Hubert is already after 4 operations to remove adrenal tumours, he is currently fighting another inoperable recurrence of the right adrenal tumour at the abdominal aorta. In addition, he has multiple pancreatic tumours with metastases to the liver, cecum, lymph nodes and left adrenal gland, epididymal cysts and hemangiomas in the vertebral body.

Karina, on the other hand, is after six operations to remove bilateral adrenal tumours with successive recurrences, 12 laser therapies for retinal tumours of the right eye with approximately 75% visual impairment, surgery for multiple pancreatic tumours with new proliferative lesions and liver metastases, as well as surgery to remove tumours and cysts of the spinal cord in the lumbar region and now with tumour recurrences throughout the spinal cord and with lesions in the uterus.

Doctors in Poland are helpless. Fortunately, an opportunity has arisen for consultation, diagnosis and therapy in the USA with a new drug. The drug, which is administered to patients with VHL, brings surprisingly good treatment results. It inhibits the growth of tumours and even shrinks them. Unfortunately, the monthly cost of treatment for one person is more than PLN 150 000. The drug is not reimbursed in Poland.
