From the pages of history: Poland – Albania 2:2 Match in Mielec

on 31 October 1984, at 17:00 at the stadium in Mielec, a match was played between the Polish national football team and the Albanian national football team in a World Cup qualifier in Mexico. The meeting ended in a 2:2 draw.

More than 25,000 fans watched the national team led by coach Antoni Piechniczek on its way to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. Our national team in that match featured such stars as Zbigniew Boniek, Dariusz Dziekanowski and Włodzimierz Smolarek. Antoni Piechniczek’s players were the first to take the lead, after a goal scored by Włodzimierz Smolarek in the 23rd minute of the match. However, the Albanian national team did not intend to lay down their arms and in the 55th minute of the match Bedri Omuri scored a goal. 20 minutes later, another goal for the visiting team was scored by Augustin Kola and the scoreboard read 1:2. In the 80th minute of the match, Andrzej Pałasz scored the winning goal for the Polish national team. The match ended in a 2:2 draw
