Preparations of the PGE FKS Stali Mielec team for the spring round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa are underway. During the preparatory camp in Spain, we talked to the captain of our team – Krystian Getinger.
Krystian, as the captain of our team, how would you assess the autumn round in your performance?
I think we showed a very good side in many games, so we could enjoy the victories together with our fans. Of course, not all of our matches were successful. We also suffered defeats, but the most important thing is to learn from them now and improve our game.
In total, after the autumn round you already have 4 goals and 4 assists in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa and Fortuna Cup of Poland. According to the saying “appetite grows with eating”, can we expect even better statistics in the spring round?
I don’t want to make any declarations, nor do I want to predict how many goals and assists I will score in the spring. For me, as team captain, the most important thing is the welfare of the whole team and the success of us all. Of course, I will do everything in my power to put myself on the scoring list, but as I said: the team always comes first for me.
Speaking of the team, many experts before the start of the season pointed to us being relegated from the PKO BP Ekstraklasa precisely by looking at the rebuilding of our team. How do you take such statements?
Whenever I read or listen to this type of opinion I just smile. Ever since we were promoted to the PKO BP Ekstraklasa we have always been pointed out as the first team to be relegated, and we have been getting better and better in the final table every year. Of course there have been big changes in the team, but the role of a captain is to make each of the new players feel like the best in the team. Anyone who knows me knows that I am an open person and you can always count on my help.
This year we are having a preparation camp in Spain. How would you compare this camp to the one in your previous preparations in Turkey?
In Turkey the weather, to put it mildly, did not spoil us. Torrential rain and strong wind meant that we were not able to do all the training units according to the staff’s pre-determined plans. Currently, the weather in Spain is much better, which of course affects the comfort and quality of the training. I am confident that the staff will adequately prepare us for the start of the spring round.
Do you agree with the statement that we will already play a match for the so-called six points at the opening of the spring round?
Ahead of us is a match against Puszcza Niepołomice, which is an uncomfortable rival for many teams in the league. We have to draw conclusions from the mistakes we made during the match in the autumn round and do our best to start the league struggles this year with a victory. It will be very important for us to have the support of the blue-and-white fans, which has helped us a lot at many points this season to fight for 3 points. Although the weather will probably not be too favourable, I encourage all fans to be with us on 9 February at Solskiego 1.
