Our rival: Piast Gliwice

Already on 19 August we will play a match against Piast from Gliwice as part of the 5th round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa y. The meeting will kick off at 19:00 at the Municipal Stadium in Mielec.

Piast Gliwice started the 2024/2025 season with an away match to Kraków. The match against Cracovia was started better by the players from Gliwice. As early as in the 8th minute, Fabian Piasecki was close to scoring a goal, but the ball after his headshot missed Piast’s goal marginally. However, the Gliwice fans did not have to wait long to celebrate after their team’s goal. In the 18th minute of the match, a pass into the penalty area was used by Jorge Felix and he led his team into the match. The Gliwice players could have increased the score in the 25th minute, but the ball after Szpyrka’s shot went past the hosts’ goal. A minute later, the ball had already landed in the goal of the team led by Dawid Kroczek, but Fabian Piasecki was in a burned position before his shot. One minute before the end of the first half, the team from Gliwice could still score a second goal. Michael Ameyaw opted for a shot from distance, but the ball hit the crossbar. After the first 45 minutes, the score was 0:1. The hosts started the second half better, creating several goal-scoring situations. The first good opportunity to score the second goal Piast Gliwice team had in the 78th minute of the meeting. Ameyaw decided to shoot from distance, but the goalkeeper of the team from Gliwice confidently caught the ball. When it seemed that the result of the match would not change again, Mick van Buren scored the equalising goal in the 89th minute. Ultimately, the meeting played as part of the 1st round of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa ended with a score of 1:1.

In the 2nd round of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, the Piast Gliwice team faced the Śląsk Wrocław team at their own stadium. Already in the 8th minute of the meeting, the hosts took the lead. A very good pass from Grzegorz Tomasiewicz was used by Michael Ameyaw and the scoreboard read 1:0. Already 10 minutes later, the Piast team could have increased the lead, but Grzegorz Tomasiewicz missed the shot on the goal of Śląsk. A moment later, Slask Wrocław responded with a shot on goal, but František Plach intervened very well. The match referee decided to add four minutes to regular time and it was in this extra time that the second goal was scored by the Piast team. The goal was scored by Arkadiusz Pyrka. After the first 45 minutes, the score on the board was 2:0. In the second part of the meeting, the team of Śląsk Wrocław tried to make up for the loss. Jacek Magiera’s team had their first goal in the 64th minute of the meeting, when Matías Nahuel decided to hit from distance, but Piasta’s goalkeeper managed to knock the ball away. In the end, the result did not change and it was Alexander Vuković’s team that could enjoy the three points.

As part of the 3rd consecutive 2024/2025 PKO BP Ekstraklasa season, the Piast Gliwice team played an away match against Legia Warszawa. As in previous meetings, in Warsaw it was the Piast team that was the first to create a goal situation for themselves. In the 4th minute of the match, Damian Kądzior found himself in the penalty area with the ball, but his shot was blocked by a Legia defender. Just a minute later, Jakub Czerwiński fought for a centred ball into the penalty area, but failed to fire a shot at the hosts’ goal. the 19th minute of the match brought much joy to the Piast fans. Michał Chrapek received the ball in the penalty area and, despite the close proximity of Legia’s defenders, managed to fire an accurate shot, beating Kacper Tobiasz. 4 minutes later, Blaž Kramer had an opportunity to score the equalising goal, but the ball hit the crossbar of Piast’s goal after the goalkeeper’s intervention. In added time, the Legia Warszawa team took a corner kick and Blaž Kramer scored the goal for the hosts with a head shot. The first half of the match ended in a 1:1 draw. In the 58th minute of the match, a very good pass into the penalty area was received by Michael Ameyaw, who tried to beat the Legia goalkeeper with a shot on the short post. The goalkeeper, however, managed to clear the ball for a corner kick. 5 minutes before the end of regular time, the Piast Gliwice team took a free kick. Confusion in the penalty area was exploited by Tihomir Kostadinov, who with a confident strike beat the Legia Warszawa goalkeeper. In the end, the result of the meeting did not change and the Piast Gliwice team enjoyed the victory.

4. the PKO BP Ekstraklasa round concludes with Monday’s meeting between Piast Gliwice and GKS Katowice. The match will kick off at 7pm at the Piotr Wieczorek Municipal Stadium in Gliwice.

– We are facing a rival who is very well organised and is ambitious, who is a newcomer but has also shown a good side in these three rounds. Point-wise it could look better with them, given the game as they have presented it. That in itself shows about the need for maximum concentration and a good attitude on our part,” said Aleksandar Vuković during the pre-match press conference.
